Oliver Residence

Oliver Residence

The Oliver Residence is a 7,000 m² property located in Calgary’s Springbank area. The property boasts a modern-looking residence complete with various amenities that you would normally see in a hotel or country club. With the property’s enormous green space, creating a landscape that the owner and his guests can enjoy was a challenge that we were happy to take on.

Foothills Landscaping was hired to create a functional and beautiful landscape for the property.

With no design to work on, our Operations Manager and the Construction Supervisor assigned to the project worked closely with the client to bring his vision to life.

The design went through numerous changes as we managed environmental constraints and client requests.

We began by scoping the area and removing overgrown sickly trees and shrubs that are growing in proposed amenities. Our client envisioned his property to have large trees and make the green space appear forested to which we complied by providing trees suitable to the area and desired by the client.

All new plant material – about 700 trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and about 3,000 m² of sod – were strategically placed to direct landscape users’ vision and actions and make their experience as natural as possible.

To tie up the house with certain features of the property such as the pool, play area, rock walls, and rock borders, steps made from boulder or flagstones were installed.

Having to do the landscape alongside the building of the house and other amenities, coordination and working around different trades was among the challenges we faced in this project. There were instances where certain trades had already built their deliverables making it hard for us to install certain materials. This has prompted us to do certain tasks manually or with little help from mechanical aids. In some cases, we had to wait for certain structures to be built before we could continue with our work.

Within the span of eight weeks, we were able to complete a landscape befitting of the newly constructed residence.
